Richard and Barbara

The stands in our collection are created by glass and metal artists Richard and Barbara Kolpack. In 1979 they founded Ironwood Design, which has earned a reputation for creating both whimsical and contemporary sculpture of the highest quality.

They started in an old dairy farm barn in Wisconsin where one corner became the blacksmith shop. With a hammer, forge and anvil Richard went to work everyday creating something new. As word got out and business grew, more shop space was added. Soon an addition was put in the barn and the old corner was changed to a gallery to showcase their work.

In the 90's Richard and Barbara had the chance to visit Big Bend National Park. The pure awesomeness of the park captured their hearts, so much so that they set plans for a move to Texas. Nature has always been a source of inspiration for both of them.

A few years later, after a trip to Arizona, they once again changed direction and location and opened a studio and a gallery in Pearce. With every move new creative interests arise. Currently they work with fused glass and metal to create sculptures and jewelry inspired by the Southwest culture and landscape.

Richard and Barbara create their own metal stands for their glass sculptures, understanding both glass art and the metal work required to meet the needs of a specific piece. In 2003 they decided to make a wide variety of their stands available to their fellow glass artists. They are always happy to help you select the perfect stand for your art.
